The York/Seneca Institute
for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education

The York/Seneca Institute for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (YSIMSTE) is a partnership of York University (Faculty of Education and Faculty of Science and Engineering) and Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology (Faculty of Applied Arts & Engineering Technology and Faculty of Information Arts & Technology).

It's mission is to create and undertake initiatives in teaching, curriculum, applied R&D, and outreach, with a view to improving the quantity and quality of education in mathematics, science and technology at all levels of education - elementary, secondary, post-secondary, and industrial training.

YSIMSTE Goals

  • To support York's pre-service teacher education programs in the areas of Mathematics, Science and Technology, and enhance opportunities for Seneca graduates to enter teacher education.
  • To provide opportunities for in-service teacher education through professional learning programs in mathematics, science and technology, delivered through both Seneca and York and promoted through joint marketing efforts.
  • To stimulate greater participation of elementary and high school students in mathematics, science and technology.
  • To develop and disseminate technology-enhanced learning materials for all levels of education in mathematics, science and technology.
  • To conduct research and development activities in relation to education in mathematics, science and technology.
  • To build partnerships, networks and communications with schools and school boards, with other educational and research institutions, and with mathematics, science and technology organisations, locally, nationally and internationally.
