YSIMSTE researchers Margaret Sinclair and Graham Orpwood together with Ron Owston and Herb Wideman of IRLT are involved in the third (and last) year of a project to evaluate the use of the TI-Navigator. In the first two years the study sought to answer questions such as - What are the effects on student attitudes and achievement in Grade 9 and 10 applied/academic mathematics? and What support do teachers need to use the Navigator effectively? Analysis of the results of Grade 10 academic students showed that use of Navigator had a statistically significant positive effect on student achievement.
The team is currently investigating how use of this new technology affects student learning in Grade 11 U and U/C mathematics.
